My work is an aggressive counter to the feminine ideals present within media and consumer culture. I contrast idealistic imagery with flesh and meat to serve as representations of the body. The comparison of body to food and meat serves as a literal critique of the way in which feminine bodies are consumed in media. The tension between beautiful and grotesque mimics the violation of bodies that penetrates consumer culture, as feminine bodies are presented only after they have been distorted and mutilated to fit into an optimized standard.
