Peter Costas, NAVERETEP, is a Chicago-based photo media artist who uses mixed media to reconstruct and unearth memories and imagination. Through a combination of writing, sculpture, performance, and photography, his work drives to both break stereotypes associated with veterans coping with PTSD and to use memory as a catalyst for fiction. Having served on submarines in the US Navy from 2011 to 2016, his personal experience within the military is a constant source of investigation and reflection. NAVERETEP has participated in a number of exhibitions including a two-person exhibition as part of an NEH grant project: Dialogues on the Experience of War at Governors State University in University Park, IL in 2018. NAVERETEP is enrolled as an MFA Candidate in Photography at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Class of 2022.
